The seventh edition of the BONAVADA Football For Health Tournament saw Phoenix Ladies of Soppo,Manyanga FC of Bokova crowned Champions in the female and male categories in 2019.
The tournament made up of three categories: Under 15, Male and Female took place at the Upper Bokova Presbyterian Church field.
It was Young Stars FC of Bokwai that won the Under 15 category, while Phoenix Ladies of Soppo beat German Ladies of Bonakanda 2-1 while in all Upper Bokova final Manyanga FC edged Zion FC 1-0.
It was also accompanied by the “BONAVADA Free Health Fair” organised at the Integrated Health Centre Bokova. During this period, a team of medical doctors and nurses offered free consultations and laboratory tests, free medication to the population particularly the elderly.
To the Chief organiser, Mbua Emmanuel Mbua, the tournament target youths across the 13 villages that make up the BONAVADA community. These villages are Bokulu, Bokwai, Bonakanda, Bonganjo, Boteva, Bova 1, Bova 2, Bwiteva, Bwitingi, Ewonda, Mwangai, Upper Bokova and Upper Bolifamba.
Mbua ended by thanking all those who supported to see that this year’s tournament was a success.
Close to 30 awards were given in both the male and female categories mostly sponsored by individuals of goodwill. This edition was also special as champions received medals in both the female and male categories.
The objectives of the tournament are to promote unity, friendship and solidarity among youths and elderly persons across the community. It is also to detect and give exposure to football talents, create promote awareness on vital issues such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, hypertension among others.
On his part, Charles Mafany the sponsor of the tournament said it gives him joy seeing the villagers of the 13 villages of BONAVADA community coming together each year to showcase their talents.
Present at the finals was the Lord Mayor of the Tiko Municipality Daniel Moukondo Ngande.
